Ever since I became a follower of Jesus, I have wanted to grow in every area of my life.
I have attempted to put His Word first as a context for the decisions I was about to make. I wanted to be sure I was finally heading down the right road and not another dead end. Up until I was 28 years of age, I travelled down too many dead ends that left me frustrated, thinking life was futile.
When I came to Christ, I was given a new lease on life and copious opportunities to grow as a man, husband, father and follower of Jesus.
In Colossians 2 it says these amazing words, “Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.”
Growth is essential at every stage of life. Healthy growth, which should be a main life goal for each of us, results in our becoming better people in both our private and public lives.
Spiritual growth is the result of being and staying connected to Jesus as Head and His church as Body. The outflow of holding fast to both is clearly stated in the scriptures as He provides the necessary nourishment we need to grow with a growth that is from God. The fruit of these two connections is growth that will influence others to live healthy lives.
